The benefits of the connected vehicle require strong relationships and coordination between public-sector infrastructure owners and operators and private-sector providers (suppliers, automakers, application providers, systems suppliers, commercial vehicles, etc.). The first day’s sessions will discuss the strategy and policy of these groups as they move forward in realising this vision.
The summit’s first day is structured to answer the following important questions:
- What are the visions and strategies for each of the international regions to realise the cooperative environment? Discussions will include the roles of public-private partnerships and any policies needed to implement their strategies.
- What are the national roles and responsibilities in realising the visions mentioned above for deployment? What are the role and need for regulations, standards, research, and development? What are the nation’s expectations for financing, and what will be done to motivate deployment?
- What will it take to get the auto industry to accelerate its participation in the delivery of connected vehicle applications? How do we get the connected vehicle out of research and development and into the platforms? Are there technologies or infrastructure improvements to make it happen faster? What is the industry perspective on public-private partnerships and safety versus mobility? What is the impact of the current thinking of the industry with regard to rollout?
- Can the connected vehicle support the new schemes for road pricing, air quality, fuel use, and economic recovery? Will it enhance location-based service opportunities?
- What are the regulatory and non-regulatory liability issues facing both public- and private-sector participants, including the pros and cons of public-private partnerships? Are there mechanisms for addressing these concerns? What can the industry do to influence change?
- What is the state of the standards in this ecosystem, and where are the gaps?
Executive Business Session: The second full-day session discussion will concentrate on who will be spending money, where the contracts will be, and what the budgets are from several perspectives. The business perspectives presented will be from automotive suppliers, government contractors, commercial services, connected services and content insurance telematics and development services.
